This is one of my absolute most favorite paintings. It is by Elspeth Young and called, "For this child I prayed." It is a picture of Hannah and Samuel.
I love how she looks at him. I love how the light shows that it's probably early in the morning. Maybe she was up a little earlier than she would have liked taking care of him. But look how much she cherishes him. Look at how she is drinking in every little sound he makes. Look how she is studying his expressions. Look how thankful she seems to have him. She prayed so hard for him. So hard.
This picture makes me imagine that she is telling him all about God and the miracle He performed to send Samuel to her. And even though (and probably because) he is probably only about a year old, this picture tells me that he knows, and he understands the miracle of God that she is telling him.
This month's quote is the scripture: "For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him: therefore also I have lent him to the Lord: as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord" (1 Samuel 1:27-28).
I love that she said he shall be lent to the Lord. You are lending your children to the Lord too as you love and teach them. You are. Don't get discouraged. (I'm telling this to myself too.) :) Keep going. You're doing a great work!
